I would like to welcome one of my favorite writers, Kim Davis, to the blog today.

Favorite thing to do when you have free time: Read! I enjoy a variety of genres and always have a couple of books going: One on my Kindle and an audiobook.

The thing you’ll always move to the bottom of your to do list: Getting household repairs scheduled if they’re not urgent.

Things you need when you’re in your writing cave: My laptop, water, coffee or tea depending on the time of day, a snack, and something to keep Missy, my mini-Goldendoodle, entertained.

Things that distract you from writing: Missy! She can be very demanding, lol! Of course, there’s going down the rabbit hole of research, or emails or texts that need to be answered to distract me as well.

Hardest thing about being a writer: Getting that first draft done! I’m a pantser... writing by the seat of my pants with no outline or idea where the story is going to go.
Easiest thing about being a writer: Honestly, nothing, lol! Well, looking at all my book titles on my bookshelf is highly satisfying.

Things you will run to the store for at midnight: Medicine.

Things you never put on your shopping list: Mangos (I’m allergic to them and my husband doesn’t care if he eats them or not); cows’ milk (we both have issues with dairy); liver (ugh!).

Favorite snacks: Popcorn or anything chocolate.

Things that make you want to gag: The aforementioned liver.

Something you wanted to be when you were a kid: A racecar driver (and I do like to drive fast!)

Something you do that you never dreamed you’d do: An author! It wasn’t until I was in my early 40s that I decided it was something I wanted to try.

Last best thing you ate: Fresh baked gluten-free sourdough bread slathered with homemade blackberry jam.
Last thing you regret eating: Eating the whole loaf of said sourdough bread in a couple of days all by myself. But toasted with homemade blackberry jam or local honey... I couldn’t resist!

Things to say to an author: Your book kept me turning pages and I couldn’t put it down.
Things to say to an author if you want to be fictionally killed off in their next book: I’ve got some great ideas for a book, and I think you need to write it.

The most exciting thing about your writing life: Connecting with so many wonderful readers and authors! The cozy mystery community is absolutely the best and has been welcoming from my first foray into it, starting as a reader and a blogger, and then moving on to writing my own books.

The one thing you wish you could do over in your writing life: I wish I would have had more confidence when I first started writing. Instead, I had so many self-doubts that I stopped and started so many times that it took close to 17 years to finish the first book. But I’m happy to say that once that first book was published, I gained confidence and my 15th book was just released!

Recommendations for curing writer’s block: For me, I take a break and go for a walk to clear my head. Often a piece of the story will fall into place while actively moving and thinking about the plot. Or if that doesn’t work, I type notes (using red font) on the manuscript where I’m stumped, then jump ahead a scene and start writing from there.

Things you do to avoid writing: It’s so easy for me to justify creating recipes and then baking them because “they’re for the book”, instead of actually writing the book! True fact, the 9th book in my Cupcake Catering Mysteries has all ten recipes already created, baked (sometimes twice), and taste-tested, and I only have one page written in the book, lol! I’d hoped to have it ready for release later this year, but now it looks like it’ll be a spring release. I don’t want anyone to think I haven’t been writing, because I did, but it was on my children’s middle-grade fantasy series and I released all three books over the summer.
