#ThisorThatThursday Author Interview with Christopher Michael

Christopher Michael is my guest today for #ThisorThatThursday!

Hardest thing about being a writer: Actually creating the time to put words on paper.

Easiest thing about being a writer: Thinking of fun things to write about.

Things you need for your writing sessions: Ambient sound/music, low light, and my computer.

Things that hamper your writing: Loud music, too many chores that need done, or screaming kids.

Words that describe you: Outgoing, driven, friendly, assertive, determined.

Words that describe you, but you wish they didn’t: Relaxed

Something you’re really good at: Keeping a conversation going.

Something you’re really bad at: Knowing when it’s time to stop.

Last best thing you ate: Salmon fillet

Last thing you regret eating: Old coffee when I wasn’t paying attention.

Favorite music or song: Always a fan of metal and hard rock.

Music that drives you crazy: AI music, pop music trying to disguise itself as country music, or music where it’s just computer-generated.

Things you always put in your books: Descriptions that evoke primal fear.

Things you never put in your books: Gratuitous sex scenes.

Things to say to an author: “Writing a book is a big accomplishment.”

Things to say to an author if you want to be fictionally killed off in their next book: “Writing a book isn’t that big of a deal. I could do it if I wanted to.”

Favorite places you’ve been: Scotland, Germany, Austria

Places you never want to go to again: Afghanistan. Ukraine.

The nicest thing a reader said to you: This sounds like Lovecraft wrote it himself.

The craziest thing a reader said to you: I wouldn’t have written it that way if I had wrote the book.

Some real-life story that made it to one of your books: Small pieces of combat make it into my fight scenes.

Something in your story that readers think is about you, but it’s not: The going crazy part.

Your favorite movie as a child: The Empire Strikes Back

A TV show or movie that kept you awake at night as a kid (or as an adult): The Blob (1989)

About Christopher:

Christopher Michael is an author, law enforcement, and a former soldier in the U.S. Army, where he completed multiple deployments in Afghanistan, East Asia, and Europe. Blending his real-world military experience with a love for cosmic horror, Christopher is the author of the self-published novel series Danforth: Eldritch Tales of WWII, a thrilling combination of historical fiction and Lovecraftian horror that marks his entry into the literary world.

Chris began writing when he was in high school, going over-the-top on writing assignments that required the creation of an original story. Since then, he had intermittently written material throughout his adult life, but only recently began to commit. After attending therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) from military and law enforcement service, he began a new journey of using his writing as a form of therapy and channeling his demons into stories that reflect his inner-most thoughts. He hopes that by writing and infusing these stories with the pain and uncertainty that he has felt that it might help other military and law enforcement veterans, as well as anyone struggling with their own demons.
